Invisalign

Invisalign® is a revolutionary way to help you get even, straight teeth without noticeable, painful metal braces. Virtually undetectable, Invisalign® aligners are made of strong, clear plastic that gradually guides your teeth into perfect alignment. Unlike metal braces, they have no wires or brackets on which your lips or gums can snag. During your first evaluation, our dentists will help you determine if Invisalign® is a good option for you. We’ll then design a treatment plan and take tooth impressions, from which Invisalign® will develop accurate, personalized tooth-straightening devices, called aligners. Aligners slide directly over your teeth and are replaced every two weeks as your teeth shift into place. Depending on your case, you will wear them full-time (except when eating or drinking) for 12 to 24 months—no longer than you would wear traditional metal braces—and see your dentist about every six weeks for check-ups.

Most Frequently asked questions about Invisalign

What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® is a system of aligners which is fabricated by Align Technology. The aligners are made of BPA free thermoplastic. They look similar to teeth whitening trays. The aligners are specifically made for each patient.

How does Invisalign® work?

Invisalign® system has a series of aligners. Each pair of these aligners is designed to move teeth slightly to the desired position. A controlled force acts on selected teeth during the course. Each set of aligner should be replaced with another after every two weeks. The teeth are straightened through the course of the treatment.

How is Invisalign® beneficial?

Invisalign® aligners are virtually invisible. Patients can undergo the treatment and not let the world know about it. Since the aligners are removable it is easy to maintain oral hygiene and patients can have their favorite food without restrictions.

How long does it take for the Invisalign® to straighten teeth?

Invisalign® treatment depends on the complexity of the condition. The treatment may vary from as less as 12 months and go up to 18 or 24 months.

How to use Invisalign® aligners?

The aligners should be worn at least 22 hours of a day. They can be removed when eating or drinking anything apart from water and when cleaning teeth. Patients can clean the trays using special cleaning system provided by the company. It is advisable to place the aligners in the case when it is not in use.

When should I see my Invisalign® dentist?

Invisalign® treatment may take about 12 months to 24 months. Patients should visit the dentist once in 4 to 6 weeks to check the progress of the treatment.

Do aligners cause pain and discomfort?

Invisalign® aligners are made of smooth plastic which causes no discomfort to cheeks and lips. Discomfort or a sensation of pressure may be felt in the teeth during the first few days when using each new pair of aligners.

What are the things to avoid when wearing aligners?

Patients should avoid smoking when wearing aligners since it may cause staining. Chewing on gums with aligners on should be avoided as it can cause the gums to stick to the appliance. Alcohol consumption in high levels can increase the chances of teeth decay.

What happens after treatment?

The patient may be advised to wear retainers after the Invisalign® treatment just to make sure that the teeth does not shift back to previous position. A dentist can help patients understand better regarding the same during initial consultation.

Can any dentist perform Invisalign® treatment?

Invisalign® treatment can be performed only by trained providers. Patients can check the same with the dentist during consultation.
